I’m Bodil, a book and identity designer living in Trondheim, in the middle of Norway. I work with companies of all sizes. However, my main passion will always be creating designs for culture-based industries.

A Master’s Degree in Sequential design at the University of Brighton in 2000 opened my eyes to how stories can be told visually and how typography can support, touch or provoke. After ten years as a graphic designer in the advertising industry, it was time for me to carry out an old dream. I started my own design company, and now I choose my own projects, clients, workspace and in which part of the world I want to work. Most of the time, I work from home in an apartment with a breathtaking view of the beautiful Trondheim, just a stone’s throw away from the river Nidelva and the Nidaros Cathedral.

In 2017 I joined the research community in the Department of Typography and Graphic Communication at the University of Reading, and in 2022, I was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. My research interest concentrates on the verbal and visual presentation of health messages on food labels from 1850 to 1970.

I get inspired by travelling, and every year I bring my Mac and my projects to a foreign country, rent a flat, and stay there for about a month. I love to find great places, good coffee and galleries and talk with local people. Staying in Berlin, London, Barcelona, and Beijing has given me a lot of inspiration, new friends and professional input.

Please contact me if you have projects that will benefit from my services.

Bookology

Bookology is a project / teaching program developed by Bodil that will provide an understanding of how a book is visually and practically made, through the focus of identity, creative typography and other effects. The goal for each participant is to have a simple, self produced book at the end of the project, that reflects an identity of chosen direction. By facilitating the thinking and conscious choices, you will be able to understand how books are designed and manufactured in a larger perspective.
